While this last week has been a whirlwind of emotion and focus on the cruelty of the Supreme Court, one of our biggest champions in Congress succeeded in attaching language to the House budget bill restricting the Department of Justice from using our tax dollars to interfere in state-legal marijuana programs.
This could be the year that we get this improvement done and we are so grateful to Representative Barbara Lee for her tenacity and effectiveness!
Fund BOWL PACs fight to end prohibition by splitting a contribution with Rep. Lee!
Representative Barbara Lee has been in this fight for years and has recruited allies across the political spectrum under the common banner of legalization and justice.
It’s thanks to her efforts years ago with the Marijuana Justice Act that created the pressure for the House to pass a bill earlier this year to end prohibition and fund expungement programs and reinvest cannabis tax revenue into communities that have been hardest hit by over-policing.
At the hearing where she was successful in getting the amendment approved, Rep. Lee said “Today the majority of Americans reside in a jurisdiction where the medical or adult use of cannabis is legal under state law. We believe that the federal government should not interfere with these programs and should respect the will of the people residing in these states, territories, and tribal jurisdictions.”[1]
Thank you for being part of this fight.
Solidarity,
Justin
