We know you’re busy, so we’ll keep this short.
Are your pockets feeling lighter these days? Mine sure are. Maybe you’re one of the lucky few who don’t also have to worry about thousands of dollars of student loans on top of record inflation. Or maybe, like me, you lay awake at night wondering how you’re going to afford paying off your student loans when the cost of just about everything is skyrocketing.
The unfortunate reality is that 45 million people in this country still have thousands of dollars left on their student loan bills. For decades, aspiring students have been unable to obtain any federal loans if they have a marijuana conviction within the last seven years. This means that college-bound young people who had been caught with a joint were forced to take out private loans with sky-high interest rates. This collateral consequence contributes to working-class kids backsliding into a lower socioeconomic status when they reach adulthood.
Join us in this intersectional call for justice by signing the joint petition to demand relief!
When more than half of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck right now, Americans would much rather spend their extra cash on necessities. We’re paying more for everything, so why should we struggle when the Biden Administration can forgive this trillion-dollar burden with the stroke of a pen?
Answer; we shouldn’t. Yes, we’re a marijuana reform organization but we also believe in radical solidarity. Those who fight for student loan forgiveness also fight for comprehensive marijuana reform, so we’re joining them in this fight too. What affects one, affects all. So what can be done?
Well, presidential power is real. President Biden can use it to put an end to injustices, including but not limited to student loan debt and cannabis prohibition. Sign this petition for a joint action demanding that President Biden forgive all student loan debt.
