During a Senate committee hearing Sen. Tom Cotton had the AUDACITY to claim that legalization, “would be an enormous gift to the cartels and the gangs and in the midst of a nationwide violent crime surge.”[1] Then on top of that, Senator Cotton cruelly defended the status-quo of criminalization which has led to more than 50 million arrests over the years.
This is in stark contrast to marijuana legalization champion Senator Cory Booker as he laid out the case for ending prohibition to promote public health, safety, and justice.
We would like to ask Sen. Cotton, What world is he living in?! One of the biggest reasons to legalize marijuana would be to remove it from the illicit market and have it be a licensed, regulated marketplace.
But Cotton’s reefer madness is not just his own, but that of Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, who rules his caucus with an iron fist. McConnell, whose time standing in front of progress is legendary, has made it perfectly clear that he is against legalization and content with the continued cruel policies of discriminatory enforcement.
While McConnell, Cotton, and their colleagues have the depravity of enforcing criminalization and oppression, we have the people and champions like Sen. Booker. Take action now by signing our petition and show Mitch McConnell we’ve had enough with his cruel policies.
We’re going to continue organizing with tenacity and compassion, led by our values of justice and freedom when it comes to cannabis policy reform and its connected policy agenda. Thank you for being a part of this movement.
Solidarity,
Justin
