When we finally legalize marijuana nationwide, we need to make sure that the emerging cannabis market doesn’t unilaterally benefit Amazon, Big Tobacco, and the well-connected. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the key to putting the people over the interests of monopolies.
But that won’t be possible if House Republicans get their way. After years of taking Wall Street money, House Republicans are making moves to try to pass the TABS Act. This legislation would threaten the independent funding mechanism of the CFPB, which would mean gutting efficiency and letting big business run rampant.
We can’t let right-wing extremists gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Add your name to join BOWL PAC and Americans for Financial Reform in demanding that Congress reject the TABS Act.
This issue affects more than just cannabis legalization—it threatens to upend the quality of product, business, and access of consumers throughout the entire economy. Republicans are once again showing their hands as lobbyists for rich tycoons. We say enough is ENOUGH.
As of 2018, 80% of Americans across the political spectrum supported the Consumer FInancial Protection Bureau. That means the main opponents of this issue are politicians like Mitch McConnell, Andy Biggs, and Donald Trump. Rejecting the TABS Act is ESSENTIAL to protecting consumers and achieving a cannabis economy that doesn’t serve only the wealthiest among us.
Thank you for taking the time to demand consumer protections.
P.S. Our BOWL PAC activist community is growing rapidly! Will you chip in $5 a month or more to support our cause? Together, we can win legalization.
