Invest in public housing and legalize weed

Ever heard of the Faircloth Amendment? It caps how much the government can invest in public housing and has prevented legislators from meeting the needs of the public for too long.

That’s why we’re calling on Congress to take immediate action to expand public housing. Housing is nothing short of a human right, and as the richest country in the world, there’s no excuse not to deliver affordable and public options to all who may benefit from it.

Please join us and our allies at Daily Kos to demand the repeal of the Faircloth Amendment and provide housing security for all Americans. Add your name today >>

Like cannabis prohibition, public housing restrictions target the most economically insecure. Both create additional barriers for less privileged Americans to live and thrive in safety—which means too often the government is waging a war on the poor.

Republicans in Congress passed the Faircloth Amendment in 1998, which means government investment in public housing has remained at the same levels it was in the late 1990’s.[1] That’s led to a scarcity of affordable public housing for those who need it.

By repealing the Faircloth Amendment, we can expand public housing and take a stand against government policies that leave low-income people behind.

No one should be forced to live without secured housing in America. Join us to demand the U.S. immediately repeal of the Faircloth Amendment and expand public housing.

It is past time for housing to be recognized as a human right. Thank you for taking action.

With Gratitude,
