Yet again, our federal bureaucracy has sided with prohibition over Americans’ medical health choices. The government office responsible for substance abuse and mental health services just released new federal workplace drug testing guidelines that explicitly state that even if your physician recommends medical marijuana, you can be fired if a test detects marijuana in your system.[1]
All federal workers face the dire risk of job loss with a single positive marijuana test. This prohibition isn’t just outdated—it’s unjust.
No individual should lose their livelihood for using cannabis. Workers deserve the freedom to make their own choices about marijuana as long as they are able to do their job. We should all be asking ourselves whether it benefits anyone when a government worker loses their job over cannabis. The answer, of course, is a resounding no.
This “Just Say No,” reefer madness mentality is a holdover of the Reagan era, and the next election can be the end of it.
Already Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jefferies, Jerry Nadler, Earl Blumenauer, and Barbara Lee champion legislation to legalize cannabis, but too many Republicans in the House, led by extremists like Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan, block our progress, standing in the way of ending prohibition. With your help, we can challenge and defeat them.
Pushing back against federal cannabis testing is a step towards broader cannabis legalization. We must rally support behind workers. BOWL PAC’s mission goes further. With your backing, our message for complete legalization will reach more voters.
With Gratitude,
