Florida’s cannabis industry is about to get smacked with more restrictions and tougher eligibility for workers thanks to Ron DeSantis.[1] He just i a law cracking down on lawful cannabis in Florida—and he wants to make it even harder to legalize marijuana nationwide.
Most Americans, including a majority of Republicans, support marijuana legalization.[2] But that hasn’t stopped backwards politicians like DeSantis from threatening to roll back progress and ramp up incarceration. Just a few weeks ago, a veteran representing those with “service-connected disease, illness and injury” who could benefit from cannabis use approached DeSantis and asked him to support the decriminalization of marijuana.
“I don’t think we would do that,” DeSantis replied, instead launching into a tirade of false, fear-mongering extremist talking points.[3]
Florida’s crackdowns on lawful cannabis are a sign of what’s to come if Republicans like DeSantis win on the national stage.
